Go ahead and uninstall Avast using the removal tool here:http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utilityThen reboot and reinstall Avast. Post and let me know what you get. :)

I would try a different anti-virus. AVAST may have made a change to the ports it uses or the protocol it uses when doing a scan. Parts of the program can't talk to each other now. This kind of thing...
